Herb Robert emergence

Geranium robertianum (Herb Robert) CLICK OVER TO ENLARGE PLEASE
Photo: Hutton Roof Village 16th April 2019

Interesting photo showing Herb Robert in emergence.
Not sure about this situation whether this is the normal or is it a sign that the plant is in need of moisture which has been the situation in regards to lots of other plants this last few days.

Nellie the elephant

This is NELLIE the elephant which has been made from mineral deposits of calcite (salts) to form Nellie, it even has eyes in the right places! I found Nellie on 14th October 2018

Not truly Hutton Roof, but just down the road at the Railway bridge on Station Road, Burton In Kendal where Nellie can be seen on the inside walls of the underside of the bridge.

SOLDIERS FACE IN THE ROCKS

"naturelle or enhancemente"

This is the soldiers face on the side of  the limestone pavement on Hutton Roof Common, about ten minutes walk on leaving the Trig Point (North West path, then after dropping down at escarpment turn right and after 100 yards head North)

It would be very difficult to find if you do not know of it, I only found it by accident and to see it you need it to have been a wet day, or alternatively you carry water and pour over.

Turtle Stone at Newbiggin (Farleton side)

The Turtle Stone

The lovely Turtle Stone is found over by Newbiggin (Farleton side) shortly after passing Whin Yeates farm on your right as you follow the main footpath starting from the Clawthorpe Road.

Depending on the time of year you can sit on the Turtle Stone and reflect quiet, with only bird songs in the background or the occasional bleating of a passing sheep.

From the stone I regularly enjoy the song of the Yellowhammer with his "Little bit of bread and no cheese"

"So peaceful a place"

SLIPPER ROCK - HOLME PARK FELL

This is Slipper Rock which is found close to the West side boundary on Holme Park Fell.

The top part of the photo is a comparison photo from 2018, whereby the original photo on the bottom was taken back in 1913 (Thanks Kath Hayhurst 1913 photo)

A Nobbly Tree full of Warts

I accidentally stumbled on this tree on 12th April 2019 on Holme Stinted Pastures (Hutton Roof). I just cannot think of one that could be more nobbled!

A unusual Cowslip

A most unusual Cowslip was found in Lancelot Clark Storth (CWT) on 18th May 2018

It shows the leaves and plant in a miniature form growing at the head of the plant were you would normally expect the flower to be.

I found it close to a stile near the natural spring

Timber with lovely pattern

I found this branch which had lost its bark to open up such a attractive patterned display
